Someone posted that it was from Unorthodox. I don't have any reason to doubt that. I just want to know if there any specs or #'s floating around. Their website appears to indicate that it is an Autorotor, which doesn't tell me much.

    So, anyone?

Another member emailed Unorthodox to get info and he sent me a copy of the email. Here it is with email addresses cut out:

    > Our supercharger program will enter Beta testing in the next 30-45 days.
    > We are working with the installer side of our distribution to give us feedback
    > on installation, fitment, weather variables like climate, altitude
    > variations and other pertinent data. The kits are designed for the B series Acura/Honda engines, 1.6/1.8L DOHC VTEC and non-VTEC. The kit includes a .87 liter, twin
    > screw/lysholm (hope I spelled it right) compressor. The compressor is manufactured by Opcon Autorotor of Sweden. The charger can run from 5 to 20 PSI of boost pressure, enough to make 375-400 HP on these Acura/Honda applications. The kit also includes an innovative intercooler designed and manufactured by Laminova, also of Sweden. This technology utilizes an extruded tube that has radial fines machined into its outer surface.
    > Water or coolant is passed through the center while the air passes over the fins on the outside of the tube. The tubes (2 in this application) sit in and extrusion which is sandwiched between the charger and the
    > cylinder head. The charger is connected to the intercooler extrusion via a box plenum. The intercooler extrusion is the connected to the cylinder head via individual runners. The extruded tubes have water pumped through them via a high volume marine pump (weighs 3-4 lbs.) and then the water passes through a
    > smaller radiator in front of the engine raditor and then returns back to the
    > intercooler. This water system already drops outlet temp by 100 degrees. The kit also includes upgraded injectors and a high volume fuel pump. Fuel and ignition is
    > handled by a piggyback computer system that works off of the factory map sensor. The
    > Acura/Honda map sensor will read to 1 bar of boost but trips the engine
    > code light in the dash after atmospheric. This piggyback system intercepts
    > the signal and handles all fuel and timing up to one bar of boost. We can provide a
    > higher bar sensor for 1+ bar. We will offer pulleys in two lb. ratios from 6 to
    > 20 psi, these pulleys will utilize our lightened design and will incorporate the
    > underdrive characteristics until ratios will not allow. The car we had
    > at the SEMA show was a SOHC 1.6L and was done as a proof of concept. We just
    > received dyno info from that vehicle once tuning was done after the show. It produced 178 HP @ 6800 and 153 ft/lbs @ 4200 RPM with 8 PSI of boost at the flywheel. This was at 3000 ft in Colorado. This application
    > makes 127 HP stock at the flywheel. This does not include any efficiency gains yet to be seen from our pulleys, adjustable sprocket/s, header, exhaust or intake system. Down the road the intercooler will have freon cooled water pumped through it rather than just water via tapping into
    > the factory a/c system and routing it into a reservoir that contains the
    > water. This will effectively cool the water temp to 36-38 degrees. In
    > testing under outside temps of approx. 60+ degrees or higher we are able to get the
    > blower outlet air temp below ambient.

Can we all say Hello Competition. Finally.

Those numbers don't look far off from JR's 6psi numbers with the Eaton blower. Not that I'm dismissing this system, it's just that their 8psi numbers aren't really any different from JR's 6psi numbers. The main advantages to this system are more boost really low down as the Autorotor has higher volumetric efficiency than an Eaton at low RPM and that these systems will include intercooling, allowing higher boost levels to be run reliably for longer periods.

This will certainly kick Vortech's butt in the Honda supercharger competition department, but the more competition there is, the better.

don't the numbers refer to D series application? if they do, then that is waay better than jackson numbers.

Those are flywheel numbers that Unorthodox is quoting. The increase is similar to the JR numbers for 6psi when viewed in that light.

oh yeah yeah yeah, I was reading it wrong. I got the flywheel #'s part, just the 127 hp number messed me up. anyways, yeah its about the same, depends how it changes with elevation. I dont know the correction, or if they corrected it already.

guess I was just hoping there would be more power than that. oh well.

Victor was told around 3grand for everything. very good price for all that stuff. Jackson should lower their prices after that. Vortech should get moving as well. Damn I would really like to just intercool my own, but I dont know when or if Endyn will release theirs or if anyone else will develop it.

OK gang... lets clear up some of the details.

Marc, the OE honda MAP sensor can actually read up to about 11 psi of boost. It may not last very long at these pressures, but it will read it.

Retail price on the Vortech Supercharger kit: $4750.00 plus shipping. OUCH !!!

The car that you guys are seeing above in the photo is Henry's car (from Revolution Motorsports ??? - the guy who cheap-sells JR blowers on the Groupbuy board). It is the prototype kit from Autorotor, and it will be distributed partly by Unorthodox. The "B" series design has NOT even begun yet, so it will be some time away before anyone sees this kit. Only the "D" series SOHC kit is in testing... and I will be one of the Beta test installers. I spoke to Rick Rimmer (President of the project) at length during SEMA and in two phone conversations thereafter, and he suggested that the HP and Torque numbers were at the wheels, not flywheel figures. This would put the peak numbers slightly higher than the JR kits typical output levels, however, the 1/4 mile claims are in the low 15 second range. This would make the performance similar to the JR kit. My concerns about the product are reliability. I have spoken to two companies who have used the Autorotor blowers in the past and discontinued the kits due to a high blower failure rate. On the other hand, Whipple Industries uses the Autorotor blower for many Mustang applications and is apparently quite successful with them, so there may have been improvements to the design to make it more robust.
Pricing is still a bit sketchy, however Rick claims that the target retail price is "Just under $4000.00".

Once I have installed this kit on a SOHC car, I will evaluate it and post my results here.

    Stay Tuned...

    Jim

    Question

    Jim,

Is this what you "had up your sleeve for the SOHC"? You mentioned something like that few months ago. I don't think anything can work well on the D-series without head work.
